What a busy year 1993 was for the fictional “worst rock'n'roll band in the world” (totally untrue as anyone who has seen them live would testify). In addition to this sequel to Leningrad Cowboys Go America, they also fronted These Boots, Aki Kaurismäki's five-minute history of Finland from 1950 to 1969 (Finnish houses, countryside, vodka, drinking, quiffs, winklepickers, children, women, tractors, leaving, moving). Not helped by the fact that only 4 of the original band members survived,there are nevertheless sufficient laughs in this tequila-soaked trek from Mexico (where the Cowboys had enjoyed unexpected chart success), in the company of manager, the comedic genius that was the late Matti Pellonpaa, who changes his name from Vladimir to Moses for this offbeat odyssey to the promised land of Russia.
