David Bomberg Polish-born
British painter and teacher (1945, after years
of obscurity, at the Borough Polytechnic,
London. Bomberg's large geometrical compositions,
e.g. The Mud Bath (1914), were prominent in the
avant-garde of the early 20th century. Later works were
representational, e.g. paintings in Palestine
(1923-7); from c. 1929 he began to use
Expressionist techniques.
