The Art of Dora Carrington
We are based in South London near Croydon and if preferred this item can be picked up by appointment. Just e-mail here.
At the age of 38, Dora Carrington (1893-1932) committed suicide, unable to contemplate living without her companion, Lytton Strachey, who had died a few weeks before. The association with Lytton and his Bloomsbury friends, combined with her own modesty have tended to overshadow Carrington's contribution to modern British painting.
This book aims to redress the balance by looking at the immense range of her work: portraits, landscapes, glass paintings, letter illustrations and decorative work.
Let's be honest: there isn't alot on Dora Carrington out there. This goes some way to filling in those blanks. I love the book, particularly the reproductions of her paintings, and after reading it I felt sadness that she didn't devote more of her time to painting. Such a wonderful talent, the work has aged well and hauntingly evokes the ethereal memory of the artist.
All profits from the sales of this book goes towards improving these pages. There are so many places to do with Carrington I would like to go and photograph and these sales help that.
