Dosso Dossi was the last of the Ferrarese painters.
His father was a bursar for the Dukes of Ferrara. He is first recorded in Mantua in 1512.
Through his career he had long stints working for the dukes Alphonso I and Ercole II d'Este.
His brother, Battista Dosso (died 1458) was his helper.
The major influences on Dossi's work were Giorgione,
Titian and
Raphael (his brother had trained in Raphael's Roman workshop).
His work is in the Royal Collection.
