Strictly 2013

Oct. 13:
As you all know, Fiona is appearing as a contestant on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. Some of her quotes about appearing on the show and her career appeared in the 5th October 2013 edition of the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine, the cover of which she graced.

On her famous appearance in the Bond movie A View To A Kill:
'‘The thing that very few people appreciate about that scene is that before they asked Roger Moore and me to get in the Jacuzzi, they’d given it a coat of wood varnish to make it an authentic mahogany colour. The blasted stuff came off all over us. Our fingers were already like prunes when we got out – we were in there forever – and our skin was the oddest colour. Glamorous? I don’t think so.’

On why she is on the show:
'This year I’m the ageing glamourpuss of the line-up. Oh don’t try to be kind and tell me I’m not. I am! There has to be one every year.’

On exposing her body on the show:
‘which is slightly tubby around the middle...Time has taken its toll. I was much bigger than this a few years ago. I put on two stone – I really did get frumpy. But I lost it again. Good job too. I’m sure Strictly wouldn’t have asked me if I hadn’t. And poor Anton certainly wouldn’t have been able to lift me when I was a size 16.’

Vote for Fiona

You can vote for free for Fiona to stay on the show on the BBC website. Further details are here on the BBC site. Basically you just have to get a BBC ID and you can vote up to five times on each show but all the details are on the link above.

Fiona herself has said that she fears going out at or near the start as she has been out of the limelight since she gave up acting in the mid-1990s. Certainly the profiles of most of the others is higher so it would be great if you could vote for her to stay in. As an actress her body of work from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Nicholas and Alexandra to The Charmer and The Secret Life of Ian Fleming and everything in-between has given a generation of her fans a great deal so in return voting for her for free on this kind of comeback would help her profile.

If you vote for her why not drop me an e-mail (ihuppert5@aol.com) and at the end of every Sunday I'll count the votes up and just put the total here so you can see what kind of level of support she is getting. I might be wrong but I'm unaware of the BBC ever releasing figures of the amount of people who vote so it would be interesting for all of us to know just what scale of people they get to vote for the show.

She survived the dreaded first week. The golfer Tony Jacklin was eliminated.

Oct. 13:
Survived the 2nd eviction as Vanessa Feltz was eliminated. I say 'survived' but she and her partner Anton danced so gracefully it would have been a travesty if they were voted off. Of the others the Hairy Biker just keeps on giving. There isn't a dance out there he can't destroy but he is so funny you just hope he can survive in there for as long as possible. It is entertainment after all and he just makes me laugh. His look of moodiness did look like the nastiest smell under his nose you can imagine!

Oct. 19:
Maybe looking a bit dodgy for Fiona after last night's dance. Not her greatest, low marks that put her jointly at the bottom, she may slip into the bottom two for Sunday's elimination show. We shall see...

Oct. 20:
Well, Fiona survived with the fashion designer Julien Macdonald eliminated. However, from here it's going to be really hard for her to go deep into the competition. I think even those who take the briefest of interest in the show would have said that the first three to be eliminated, Jacklin, Feltz and b>McDonald were favourites to go. Now it gets interesting. All the others are active in their fields (acting, presenting, singing) or are recently retired from their sport (Cohen) and have huge fan bases consequently. Fiona has been retired from acting for over 15 years so she doesn't have that to fall back on.

So she really needs your vote but even that may not be enough. I really don't see a way round this fan base thingy. Hope I'm wrong, of course. And I was really surprised to see Rachel Riley with her huge fanbase in the bottom two so maybe I will be surprised...

Oct. 27:
She's through for another week. Beautiful dance though, graceful and serene. She's done really well to get to next week. A personal message from the great man, her Bond co-star, Sir Roger Moore, didn't harm her chances at all but she really deserved it. That Dragon's Den woman went.

Nov. 3:
Well, she's done brilliantly in getting through this week with her charleston and scarecrows. A charming and sweet dance and yes, it did remind me of Doris Day which is no bad thing in my book. But to come ahead of Abby and Rachel (who actually went) with their huge profiles is an extraordinary achievement for someone really out of the public eye for so long. Just goes to show how people have never forgotten her. Totally down to Fiona, her engaging and charming personality, and, of course, her partner, Anton.

Please keep on voting for Fiona here.

I hope the Hairy Biker never finishes in the bottom two as he's out of there. Whatever you say about him, he's taking 'dance' to a new level. Whatever that level is it is a new level! Bit harsh for those to say that Fred Astaire would be turning in his grave if he knew what Dave was doing to dancing. Ok, maybe not harsh but he is funny.

Even funnier if he got to the final.

Nov. 10:
Another week, another survival! We should be getting used to it but her and her partner are doing amazng and it's now off to the spiritual home of Ballroom, Blackpool. I think it's a wonderful achievement not to have been in the bottom two this far and no matter what happens from hereon in she's done really well.

She also revealed in the show that her late father had been in the British army for over 40 years and chatted to veterans about the regiment he had been in.

Sad to see Dave (Hairy Biker) go. He brought entertainment and when someone can make you laugh then they should be given bonus points, in my eyes. If he could have danced, or at least been in the same postcode as dance, he could have won the show!

Nov. 17:
Well the bookmakers make her the favourite to go tonight. We shall see.

So the bookmakers were right and she was eliminated. But only just. Came down to Len's last vote with her up against Mark. But she did so well getting to Blackpool and throughout the series has added to the show.

She will be missed.
