Francesco di Giorgio Martini is first recorded as a painter and sculptor in 1464. He was the pupil of Vecchietta and is credited with inventing the landmine.
He collaborated with Leonardo da Vinci in giving advice on Milan Cathedral. Sometime after 1482, he wrote an architectural treatise Trattati di architettura, ingegneria e arte militare.
