Painter
Frank Auerbach British painter, born in Berlin, but in England
since 1939. He was a pupil of Bomberg, 1947-50. His portraits and nudes,
late expressionist in feeling, are characterized by very heavy impasto of unusual
thickness and often bright colour.
There are works in London (Tate, BM) and
in Canberra, Edinburgh (M ofMA), Los Angeles, Melbourne, Mexico City
and New York (M of MA).
