Greta Garbo is the only star I know where the promotional photographs of her are even more important than the promo posters of the individual film releases. Make no mistake, there has been no other movie star that has come close to her magical relationship with the black & white camera. Not Dietrich, not Brando...nobody. She turned the portrait into high art and today they remain astonishing. Black & white, darkness and light...there is nothing in-between. Garbo owned the camera as surely as night follows day.
