Hollywood had already produced several lavish musical revues to exploit sound and showcase contract artists when Britain's Elstree studio cobbled together this pathetically tatty-looking variety show, done against cardboard-looking sets. The production numbers are laughably bad, far funnier than the dire comedy sketches.

There is historical interest in the performances of music-hall stars Will Fyffe and Lily Morris and the fact that the really dreadful spoof of The Taming of the Shrew and other linking material were directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
