Goodbye Ingrid! The first and last time the Bergmans met on screen! The only time Ingrid Bergman acted in a film directed by Ingmar Bergman, and given the frequent falling out of the pair on set that is not a surprise. It was also the great woman's final screen role. Though she was only three years older than the director, she died just four years after filming this, and the director outlived her by a quarter of a century. Filmed in Jar, Norway. After a prolonged period of separation, world famous pianist Charlotte (Ingrid Bergman) decides to visit her daughter, Eva (Liv Ullmann). She is surprised to find that her other daughter, Helena, is no longer staying at the mental institution where Charlotte placed her, but is now living with Eva. As the day moves into night, mother and daughter open up about their feelings and misgivings towards one another. Before long, Charlotte, who chose her musical career over fulfilling her role as a mother, is forced to re-appraise her life and the choices she has made. By the time the night is over, the relationship between these two women will undergo a profound change.
Winner of a Bodil Award and a Golden Globe, this stunning and beautifully-observed film features an historic if troubled union of two of Sweden's national
treasures, Ingrid Bergman and Ingmar Bergman, working together for the first and only time.

Update: (Dec 08)
The UK company who released this, Tartan Dvd, went out of business in 2008 and are not making this title anymore. Those sold at online retailers and shops are just what they have in stock and which can't be replaced. For example, Seventh Seal is becoming incredibly hard to find now as it is Bergman's best seller and stockists can't replace it once they have sold all their available copies.
As of December 2008 no company has yet come in to release the Bergman titles. So at some point if things don't change stocks are going to dry up which is weird when you consider that these are the films of Europe's greatest 20th-century film director.
I only have a few of these left. You can also try amazon for this title by using the links below.
