Jean Fouquet was the major French painter of the 15th century. At some point in the 1440s (we can't say for sure the exact date or who invited him there) he went to Rome, but we know for sure that in 144 he was back in Tours, working for Charles III.
In 1475, he was appointed Painter to the King. He also designed sculpture and worked for the Order of S. Michel.
