book review

This is a cracking ghost story. If you haven't anything to do for an hour and a half on a Sunday afternoon then this is is a perfect watch. Not really frightening - it's really for all the family.

What amazes me about the film is how few of the actors you hear of these days. Other than the main stars George Cole and Prunella Scales no one has really gone onto major stardom in the fifteen years or so since it was filmed. All are good here; perfectly watchable and the main boy character (Jon Newman) has a gormless enough face to act as a vessel for the range of emotions he has to show.

It's shot on what I would call 'cold colour' which is kind of washed out and shivers you to the bone just looking at it.

Greville Lodge in real life is Chavenage House, Tetbury, Gloucestershire recently used for the acclaimed BBC series, Poldark.

The snow at the end is clearly from a snow machine and is amusing to watch.
