(28 Sept. 08)
To Joanne, and all the Newman family,
Today, as I was searching my soul, just prior to the Jewish High Holidays, I turned on my PC and the first thing I saw was a big beautiful picture of Paul. and it said,"In Memoriam."
I had to blink several times, because I suddenly felt very low, and empty. Reading on, I now wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to you in what must be such a profound loss to all of you, and great sadness. I'm a retired nurse as well as a lifelong fan.
I've been around since 1942, and to me the name "Paul Newman" is a name that is synonymous in every sense of the word with the kind of human being I not only wanted to be associated with (and wished I had been), but whose talent and bare guts to pursue his dreams the way he did, and to succeed so magnificently,in so many diverse areas of life, has left me feeling blessed that we shared the same lifetime.
I saw many of his films, including"Exodus", "Hud", "the Sting", "the Long, Hot Summer", among others, I followed along with his philanthripic work, love the salad dressings with his picture on the bottle, and even worried about his wreckless race-car driving which I was sure would do him in, and leave you suffering much sooner, Joanne.
I was wrong on that one, though, wasn't I?
I am so terribly sorry that he didn't get to that big"50", which you both certainly have deserved, and looked forward to, but I'm somehow sure that all those amazing years together have left you with such an array of memories and friendships to sustain you through all of this and for a very very long time., that you actually reached your "50th,"
anyway.
You are a pillar, Joanne, and he knew it, and I stand with you all, even though you don't know me,-- as a good friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Paul's wonderful face and gorgeous eyes won't be forgotten by me, for sure. I am crying too.
Very Sincerely,
- Frances, in Reseda, California

His passing is very sad for us.
He lived a life well spent but is now returned to his father. I will keep him in my prayers today. He was a great man

Its really been a tough year.
We have lost two of the biggest Hollywood ICONS. Charlton Heston and Paul. I work for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the Safety Patrol and what thrill it was to see Paul back at the track this past May. A person like Paul is truly a gift from God to remind us to care for our fellow man and our children who might be less fortunate then us. Aside from all that he was one of the best actors in my life span. I don't think I ever missed a movie he ever made. You talk about hero's and someone you want your grandchildren to look up too and immulate-Paul Newman is the one. All I can say is thanks Paul for being someone in my generation to look up to.
