Because the Dali items have been oversubscribed (try getting Dali cards in particular elsewhere - it is quite difficult) a 100 times over it has become increasingly hard to keep this page up to date. Plus I've found I'm losing money on overseas postage (not very bright!). Limited new supplies have just come so I'll offer them on a first come first served basis. Therefore I would ask you to use the e-mail link by each item first to reserve any item from this page. That way I can advise you when cards are temporarily out of stock. When e-mailing please specify country you are ordering from so I can work out the postage costs to that region and price in your currency. I will also give you payment options incl. paypal, cheque etc.
All prices listed in UK Sterling. Orders shipped from the UK.
Postage is just charged for what it costs me. So for the postcards it would be 50p UK postage (Europe: 80p; US & Rest of World: £1.20) and 3 can be sent for the price of one. Notecards and bigger cards would be slightly more because of their size. All cards are sent out with strong cardboard protection.
This is a fantastic large hardback book entitled Dali, edited and arranged by Eleanor R Morse, and published by Harry N.Abrams Inc, New York in 1968. Contains loads of full colour photos and illustrations of the famous surrealist artist Salvador Dali. Book measures approx 29cm, x 30.5cm in size and is approx 244 pages long - in good condition complete with original foil embossed dust jacket (which looks stunning!), A few of the pages have unfortunately come loose from the binding but I believe all is intact. Mega rare on the market! An absolutely stunning book long out of print!.
Shipped from UK. Please note: because of the weight of this book it will only be shipped to a UK mailing address.

SALVADOR DALI Apparatus and Hand, 1927
Notecard with envelope. 7 x 5 inches
Published by teNeues Publishing Company
Until 1927 Dali's primary influences were the Impressionists and early twentieth-century painters. His early visits to Paris expanded his artistic horizions significantly through his exposure to Surrealism and Sigmund Freud. The Surrealists believed that logic had failed humankind, so they turned to the unconscious and dreams to go beyond the boundaries created by reason and convention. The feeling evoked by this painting is is one of dreamlike anxiety. The "apparatus," the central figure, is supported at an angle, creating the sense that it may collapse at any moment. On top of the apparatus is a gruesome hand without skin, which seems electrified. The apparatus is vaguely human, as is evident in the shadow it casts. Dali is creating disturbing imagery; he is trying to challenge our way of looking at the "real" world.

SALVADOR DALI The Ghost of Vermeer of Delft Which Can Be Used as a Table, 1934
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover publications (1994)
Original: Oil on panel, 8 x 6 inches approx (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg, Florida)
This, one of several miniature works by Dali, illustrates the artist's "paranoiac-critical method". Dali sought to paint with precision the images from his subconscious in order to undermine one's sense of rea;ity, frequently painting live images as though they were inanimate reality, and vice versa. In this work, Dali transforms the artist Vermeer into a table. The real and the dream collide and a new vision of reality emerges.

Original: Watercolour conversion of a print of Montague Dawson's Wind and Sun ... The Lightning, 25 x 18 inches approx (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg, Florida)
Of all Dali's accomplishments, none has captivated the public's mind more than his ability to transform one image into another. The Ship is a watercolour conversion of the print Wind and Sun ... The Lightning by Montague Dawson (1895-1973), an artist well known for his watercolours of ships. Dali has painted a figure directly on, and partially covering up, Dawson's image of a ship.

SALVADOR DALI The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, 1958-59
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 162 x 122 inches approx (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg, Florida)
The underlying theme of this large work is Dali's Spanish heritage in history, religion, art and myth. Columbus is part of this Spanish heritage: Dali was aware of a popular theory of the time that held that Columbus was a Catalan. Columbus is about to set foot on the New World, carrying a banner with the image of Gala as a saint. Dali himself appears next to Columbus, in a monk's outfit, holding a crucifix. The same Crucifixion, formed out of a series of lines, appears in the sky opposite the banner. This image of the Crucifixion is based on a vision of St. John of the Cross, a Spanish mystic. The lines that form the image recall the row of lances in the 1647 painting The Surrender of Breda by Velazquez, the 300th anniversary of whose the painting commemorates.

SALVADOR DALI Oeufs sur le Plat sans le Plat, 1932

Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 24 x 17 inches. (St Petersburg (FL), Collection of Mr. and Mrs. A. Reynolds Morse, on loan to the Salvador Dali Museum)
During the 1930s, Dali tried unusual techniques to stimulate creative thought. One method was to press his fists tightly against his closed eyes, creatng phosphenes - the luminous colours resulting from the stimulation of the retina. These triggered what Dali described as an "inter-uterine memory". He said that the colors made him recall a vision he had in his mother's womb of "a pair of eggs fried in a pan without a pan."

SALVADOR DALI Girl with Curls, 1926
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on panel, 20 x 16 inches approx (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
This work's blend of realism and distortion offers a hint of the Surrealist style for which Dali would become most famous. There are several ambiguous elements in the picture. The girl appears to be too large for the landscape behind her. It is also possible that she is standing on a cliff, suggested by the expanse of green, and looking down on the landscape. The girl's back is to the viewer, a device that creates a feeling of mystery. Finally, the landscape is painted in a fairly realistic manner, while the curves of the girl's body are exaggerated

Original: Watercolour and ink conversion of a print, 11 x 8 inches approx (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
This work transforms an ordinary image into a fantastic one. A typical nature print depicting butterflies on a plant has been converted by Dali into a gentleman in an elaborate costume. Two butterflies from the original illustration are transformed into fans. A caterpiller and leaf become the gentleman's hat, with another butterfly perched on top as an adornment

Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on cardboard, with key, 27 x 28 inches (St Petersburg (FL), Collection of Mr. and Mrs. A. Reynolds Morse, on loan to the Salvador Dali Museum)
An advertisement for mustard plasters clipped from a Barcelona newspaper of 1920 gave Dali the idea for this work, which was used as a poster to advertise his exhibition at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York. Dali painted over the original, adding the four oblong cavities and filling them with his name, a limp watch, a figure of a seated woman, and a keyhole through which water is flowing. He also added the lamb chop and ants under the foot of the figure. These images had by now become part of Dali's iconography, appearing repeatedly in his works

SALVADOR DALI Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man, 1943
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 18 x 20 inches approx (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
In the late 1930s Dali spent time in Italy studying the works of the Italian Renaissance. Completely abandoning the world of the subconscious and Surrealism, he declared that he had entered into his classic period. Geopolitics, the interrelationship of geography and politics, is illustrated by showing the changes in world order and shifts of power resulting from World War II. A man hatches from the earth out of the continent of North America; Africa and South America are given prominence, indicating the emergence of the Third World; Europe is diminished in size. The Geopoliticus Cgild witnesses this transfer of power and these geopolitical changes while clutching the legs of an adult figure who points to the scene

Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 50 x 63 inches appox. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
This is one of many pieces on large canvasses Dali completed between 1949 and 1970 in which the subject matter is of scientific discovery, mathematical order, religious meaning and Spanish culture.
'Something' has disturbed the beautifully sharp elements on the table: perhaps an atomic bomb but whatever it is they have been arranged within a mathemical grid based on the golden section to show that there is a fundamental order within chaotic appearances.

SALVADOR DALI Sainte Helena a Port Lligat, 1956
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 13 x 17 inches appox. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
Sainte Helena was the mother of Constantine the Great, the fouth=century Roman Emperor who promoted Christianity in the Empire. According to legend, she found the Cross on which Christ was crucified. Here, Dali depicts his wife Gala as St. Helena, crediting Gala with bringing Christianity back into his life. She is also posed as Michelangelo's statue of Moses, further associating her with greatness and power. The setting is the familiar landscape of Dali's native Catalonia, this time Port Lligat, where Dali and Gala lived. The style of this work, like several of the paintings of this period, involves the use of grisaille

Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 19 x 25 inches appox. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
This work is another example of Dali's endless ability to create double images. The bust of Voltaire by the French sculptor Houdon is almost exactly reproduced by the juxtaposition of several figures within a surrounding arch. The two principal figures that formthe features of Voltaire are a Dutch couple of the seventeenth-century.

SALVADOR DALI Daddy Longlegs of the Evening - Hope!, 1940
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 10 x 20 inches. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
One explanation of this painting concerns war and the mechanisms of war - the airplane, the horse and the cannon. A weeping angel in the foreground points to the scene. A decaying horse emerges from a connon. A large, sinewy figure, bent over a dead branch, holds a limp cello. Ants crawl on its huge, mouthless face; a daddy longlegs stands on its cheek. These are certainly scenes of death and horror, appropriate to a work about war. And yet there are signs of hope. The daddy longlegs refers to a French folk legend that a spider seen at twilight is a lucky omen. The inkwells suggest the signing of peace treaties. Amid all these obvious references to war are some compelling images of sexuality and impotence.

SALVADOR DALI Galacidalacidesoxiribunucleicacid [sic] (Homage to Crick and Watson), 1962-63
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 120 x 162 inches approx. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
The lengthy title is a combination of Dali's wife 's name, Gala, of the Spanish legend of Cid, and of the DNA molecule - deoxyribonucleic acid. The discovery of the shape of the molecule in 1953 inspired many of Dali's work. However, the event that inspired the creation of this work was a flash flood in Barcelona that cklaimed the lives of 450 people. It led Dali to meditate on birth/death/rebirth and on modern science. The faint image of God the Father appears in the clouds reaching down to pull the crucified Christ up into heaven. Below the image of God is a landscape of the area that was flooded. To the right is a cubic structure resembling a mineral molecule formed by men pointing rifles in an endless chain of self-destruction. To the left is a recreation of the DNA molecule. The two images represent death and life, respectively. The form in the foreground with her back turned is Gala, presented as the grieving Madonna.

SALVADOR DALI The Disintegration of the Persistance of Memory, 1952-54
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 10 x 13 inches. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
Dali has recreated his popular 1931 painting, The Persistance of Memory, by acknowledging the explosion of the atom bomb. The barren but tranquil landscape of melting watches and blue sky in the earlier work has been shattered. Everything is in a state of disintegration. Particles radiate out from the center, and the melting watches are beginning to come apart. The mountains in the distance have become detached from the earth and are suspended in the air: a gelantinous head melts into the landscape, evoking the devastating effects of the bomb, evoking the devastating effects of the bomb on human beings.

SALVADOR DALI Old Age, Adolescence, Infancy (The Three Ages), 1940
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 20 x 26 inches approx. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
Three faces, allegorical representations of the Three Ages of Man, are formed out of a landscape. On the left, the head of Old Age is formed by an opening in the ruins of a brick wall. His eye, nose, mouth and beard are suggested by a stooped shrouded figure, which has a key dangling from its apron. In the center, the larger opening forms Adolescence, whose nose and mouth are formed by the shadows of the seated nurse figure from The Weaning of Furniture-Nutrition. A young Dali stands next to his nurse. The eyes are formed out of the whitewashed houses on the distant mountains. Infancy is a small gap between the wall and the distant rocks. His eye, nose and mouth are formed by a net mender

Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches

Original: Oil on canvas, 38 x 50 inches. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
Cadaques is a Spanish resort town on the Mediterranean, in the province of Catalonia, where Dali and his family had a summer home. This view is rendered predominantly in hues of olive green. The landscape is painted in a geometrical manner derived from Cezanne. The figures of the women in the foreground show the influence of Picasso's classicized, sculptural women bathers of this period

Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on panel, 13 x 13 inches approx. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
This painting was completed at the end of Dali's formal training, obtained at the famous Special School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving at the San Fernando Academy in Madrid. The photographic realism of the work is reminiscent of seventeenth-century Dutch painting, particularly Jan Vermeer. The painting was the first of Dali's works to be exhibited in America in 1928. In achieving a realist work of this quality, Dali proved his technical mastery of the medium, and was free to pursue a much more unconventional style of painting

Original: Oil on panel, 11 x 16 inches approx. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
Also known as Figure on the Rocks. Here Dali has paid hommage to Picasso's classicized bathers of the early twenties. But, while Picasso's figures are the embodiment of sensuality and desire, Dali has created a female with an overt sexuality that is vaguely threatening. The woman is stretched out on the rocks; her legs spread in an open, provocative pose. The fold of her dress between her legs is suggestive. Everything in the composition is massive and angular

SALVADOR DALI Three Young Surrealist Women Holding in Their Arms the Skins of an Orchestra, 1936
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 22 x 26 inches approx. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
The setting of this work is the rocky landscape of Catalonia, peopled by Surrealistic elements. The three figures, who in their fluid white clothing are more like apparitions than real women, have heads that are bouquets of flowers. One wears a torn dress, and the figure to the left has female breasts but male body proportions. The women hold what looks like the empty or lifeless "skins" of a cello and a piano. Dali's paranoiac-critical method enables him to transform objects to explore an alternative vision of reality.

This is Dali's most ambitious double-image painting. The face of the bullfighter emerges out of the central, smaller Venus de Milo wearing the white drape. The contours of his face are defined by the larger Venus with the red drape. His right eye is formed by the head of the smaller Venus, while the broken arm of the larger Venus suggests the left eye. The breast of the smaller Venus forms his nose, beneath which is the mouth. The hat of the toreador is shaped by the arena at top, and his tie is the green shadow on the white drapery. A wealth of images from Dali's career completes this monumental painting.

SALVADOR DALI The Ram (Vache Spectrale, 1928
Postcard
Sized: 6 x 4 inches
Published by: Salvador Dali Museum/Dover Publication (1994)
Original: Oil on canvas, 20 x 25 inches approx. (Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg (FL))
In 1928 Dali briefly abandoned his accomplishments as a realist painter to pursue increasingly abstract compositions and to develop his private dream symbolism. This elusive work presents the moonlit apparition of a spectral cow or ram. The shape of its eye socket is echoed in the eye socket of the small dead bird at the bottom. Rising between them is a dolmenlike shape that suggests a face in profile. A large amorphous bird appears to take fllight from within this shape, possibly suggesting the rising spirit of the dead bird.

Sized: 6 x 4 inches

The painting is a visual metaphor of weaning based on Dali's childhood associations. The seated woman is his nurse, Lucia; however, she is depicted here as a net mender - a common sight on the beach in front of Dali's home. By showing her this way, he has "weaned" her from her normal environment. Dali associates particular places and objects with this nurse and childhood - the chest and the little nightstand next tot he nurse. Dali has "weaned" them from these associations by cutting a hole in the nurse's back in the exact size and shape of the chest, and then cutting a hole in the chest that resembles the little night table to the right.
