The youngest of three children, Alison Doody was born to a well-off family in Dublin, Ireland. Her mother, Joan, was a beauty therapist, and her father, Patrick, worked in the property business and farmed. Doody attended Mount Anville Convent. She studied at the National College of Fine Arts, but left after a year.

Though a familiar face to British TV fans, Alison Doodshewas unknown to American audiences until her portrayal of Jenny Flex in A View to a Kill (1985). In 1989, she played the avaricious, pro-Nazi Elsa, the most complex and fascinating of the three Indiana Jones heroines in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
