  • Edward Calvert (1799-1883)

    Artist

Edward Calvert joined the British Navy as a young man and first exhibited at the RA in 1825. He met Palmer there in 1826, who described him as 'a prosperous, stalwart country gentleman ... redolent of the sea, and in white trousers'. Between 1827 and 1831 he was deeply influenced by Blake and Palmer, but he later lost his innocent eye and spent the rest of his long life absorbed in anti-Christian mythological musings.

Ther are works by him in London (Tate) and Yale (CBA).
