Search Site Edward Hopper's masterpiece of loneliness in a city of millions. All around you, in buildings to the left, the right and beyond are people, people, people. Yet here the woman is alone, so alone, on a kind of desert island of the self in a city of lights. 1932. 1930s. Years of the Depression. Austere times and the few pieces of furniture here reflect that. A room with a view. A view of seemingly endless chimney tops. So many lives going on so near and yet she seems thousands of miles away from anyone. A masterpiece in loneliness. There is so much depth to Hopper's paintings that I swear if you turn them around you will never come to where they end. Random Hopper Fact Where Is The Painting Now?
