Giovanni Battista Cima was the son of a cloth-shearer (cimator), from where the family name came from. By 1488, he was working as a painter in Vicenza; four years later he was in Venice and had established himself as an artist of some repute.
By his mid-50s he was back home
He married twice and in total had eight children.
His works include: Madonna of the Arbour (1489), Baptism of Christ (1492), Incredulity of St. Thomas, Nativity (1509), Madonna Montinini (c. 1507), Madonna with Four Saints (c. 1511), and Virgin and Child Enthroned with St. John the Baptist and the Magdalen (c. 1513).
