It's a difficult time for a glamourous news presenter in her mid-40s. She is bound to look over her shoulder and see younger and prettier presenters such as Juliet Etchingham ready to take over. And God forbid if Sky should ever decide to bring anyone over from Grand Babe Central that is Sky Sports. To misquote the Simon & Garfunkel song, when Kay gets up to powder her face she'll return to find somebody's taken her place.

What next then? Dificult to say. Does she take the Anna Ford route and hang on to her place within the news station but accept that as she gets older her slot will be earlier and earlier until one day she finds herself on the graveyard shift. Or even worse, the weekend only slot like Angela Rippon. Or does she accept what life gives her, says whatever will be will be, stop sucking in her cheeks and getting more plastic surgery, and takes it on the chin (not the Frank Partridge type of on the chin thingy!). Who knows?
