In this painting the brushwork is freer and more relaxed. The colour, nowithstanding the ravages of pollution and cracking (the artist always refused to permit any conservation to be carried out on either of these pictures) is conceived in a far less realistic key.It was in this year also that he wrote applying for a job with The Pall Mall Property Company Ltd.. He remained with this firm until his 65th birthday in 1952 when he was retired on full pension. During his lifetime only a few close friends knew the details of his employment.
