Mia Farrow, daughter of film director John Farrow and actress Maureen O'Sullivan, rose to fame in 1964 as Alison MacKenzie in ABC's groundbreaking primetime serial Peyton Place. Her delicate beauty, combined with an aura of vulnerability and resilience shaped by surviving childhood polio, made her stand out immediately. After studying in convent schools in Europe, she pursued acting, debuting Off-Broadway in Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest (1963), catching the eye of industry insiders and securing her first major film role in Guns at Batasi (1964).
Farrow's early career included the hit series Peyton Place, the remake of Johnny Belinda (1967), and films like A Dandy in Aspic and the iconic thriller Rosemary's Baby (1968), where her waiflike persona and haunting performance drew critical acclaim. She continued to work in complex roles alongside stars like Elizabeth Taylor in Secret Ceremony (1968) and in thrillers such as See No Evil (1971).
In 1974, Farrow portrayed Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, and appeared as Peter Pan in NBC Hallmark Hall of Fame productions. Following her separation from Previn, she delivered compelling performances in films such as A Wedding (1978) and Death on the Nile (1978).
From 1982 to 1992, Farrow became closely associated with director Woody Allen, starring in films including A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982), Zelig (1983), Broadway Danny Rose (1984), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), and Hannah and Her Sisters (1986). Her later work included Alice (1990), Widow's Peak (1994), Reckless (1995), Miracle at Midnight (1998), and Forget Me Never (1999).
In the 2000s and 2010s, Mia Farrow continued her advocacy work while occasionally appearing in film and television projects. She returned to the stage in selective theater productions and participated in independent films, emphasizing socially-conscious roles. Farrow has also been active in humanitarian efforts, particularly focusing on children's rights and global health initiatives.
Mia Farrow has devoted much of her time to humanitarian causes, serving as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for over 30 years. She has traveled extensively to raise awareness of child welfare, education, and healthcare in underprivileged regions. Her activism remains a defining aspect of her public life.
Farrow continues to live a private life while maintaining connections with her large and extended family. She has adopted numerous children over the decades and advocates for adoption and child welfare issues.
