Norbury Photos
Norbury is tucked between Thornton Heath and Streatham. Seen better days and the high street is full of your obligatory chicken shops, hairdressers and more chicken shops. But above the chickenland shopfronts are the facades of buildings far grander than the ground floor crap shops deserve. Why can't any of these shops house the wonderland of treasures their facades are crying out for, say a shop of victorialand memorabilia, or autographs of bygone music hall or movie stars, or a shop filled with samplers, or just a shop that sells anything other than chicken?
We all don't eat chicken morning noon and night you know.
Famous residents? None I know of. Famous residents of the past? The comic genius that was Will Hay (1888-1949) lived in Norbury in the 1930s at 45 The Chase and is buried in nearby Streatham Park Cemetery as is one of Roger Moore's wives, the singer Dorothy Squires.
