Blue Bell Knoll, Cocteau Twins' fifth studio album, arrives here as a genuine collector's piece — this original 1988 Japanese vinyl pressing of one of dream pop's defining records. It marked the first album the band recorded in their own studio, free from outside deadlines, and their first to receive major-label distribution in North America via a licensing deal with Capitol Records.
The album's most enduring song, "Carolyn's Fingers," is reflected on the cover itself — a close-up photograph by Juergen Teller of the band's friend Carolyn's hand. Reflecting years later, Elizabeth Fraser described revisiting the record: "I listened to Blue Bell Knoll for the first time in years and I cried, I just thought it was so lovely. It was quite a difficult time, and I think we just decided to throw ourselves into the creativity."
A genuinely unique release in the band's catalogue — Blue Bell Knoll was the only Cocteau Twins album ever issued commercially on DAT format, and remains the only 4AD release to ever appear in that format at all. This Japanese vinyl pressing offers collectors the meticulous mastering and pressing quality the format is known for, making it a standout addition to any serious 4AD or dream pop collection.
