COCTEAU TWINS

This 1987 Japanese vinyl reissue pressing of Treasure captures Cocteau Twins at a genuine turning point — the album where the classic lineup of Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde settled in, and the ethereal, dream-pop sound they'd become synonymous with truly took shape. Recorded at Palladium Studios, Edinburgh and Rooster, West London, in August–September 1984, the album peaked at #29 on the UK charts and placed four tracks in John Peel's legendary Festive Fifty poll for 1984 — "Ivo," "Donimo," "Pandora," and "Beatrix."

This Japanese edition arrives with the format's usual polythene dust jacket and obi strip, prized among collectors for its detailed, airy mastering — many longtime listeners rate Japanese pressings of Treasure above even the UK originals for depth and clarity, especially compared to more recent remasters that some fans feel have flattened the album's original warmth. Several Japanese pressings from this era also included bonus tracks from the companion Aikea-Guinea EP, rounding out the Treasure sessions in full.

Every track title on the album is a name — Ivo, Lorelei, Pandora, Persephone — giving it a mythic, almost incantatory quality despite the band's own resistance to literal interpretation. A genuinely essential piece for any serious Cocteau Twins or 4AD collector, and one of the most sought-after original pressings in the band's catalogue.
