The digipak CD version of "Jean the Birdman" by David Sylvian and Robert Fripp was released in 1993. It features a 6-panel digipak design with white trays and includes three tracks: "Jean the Birdman," "Earthbound (Starblind)," and "Endgame."

This release is part of a two-CD set, with the digipak being the first part. Comes with a mock-up cardboard CD, labelled VSCDT 1462 / 7243 8 92082 2 1, with four tracks printed on it.

  • 🎯 In some European releases, “Jean the Birdman” was promoted alongside “Firepower” as part of a joint single strategy rather than a purely standalone lead single.
  • 🎧 The single version differs from the album version on The First Day, with a shorter structure and a mix adjusted for radio play, particularly in guitar and vocal balance.
  • 🧾 The release formed part of Virgin’s early 1990s rollout of digipak CD single packaging, which was still relatively new in mainstream European distribution at the time.
  • 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 The recording process was collaborative but not continuous — Robert Fripp contributed in intensive studio sessions rather than a full-time band setup, shaping the assembled studio style of the track.

    • Rare digipak edition from 1993!
