Richard Wright – Wet Dream (1978 Japanese Promotional Gatefold LP – CBS/Sony 25AP 1141)
This rare 1978 Japanese promotional edition of Wet Dream is one of the most desirable pressings of Richard Wright's debut solo album. Issued by CBS/Sony under catalogue number 25AP 1141, the promotional release was manufactured in significantly smaller quantities than the standard commercial edition, making surviving copies particularly sought after by Pink Floyd collectors and enthusiasts of Japanese vinyl.
Recorded during Pink Floyd's hiatus following Animals, Wet Dream allowed Richard Wright to step into the spotlight as a songwriter and performer. Blending progressive rock with elements of jazz, ambient music and Mediterranean influences, the album reveals a more relaxed and melodic side of Wright's musical personality while retaining the atmospheric keyboard style that became one of Pink Floyd's defining characteristics.
Highlights include the instrumental opener Mediterranean C, the haunting Summer Elegy, Against the Odds, Cat Cruise and the reflective Pink's Song. Together they form an album that has steadily gained appreciation over the years, with many fans now regarding it as one of the finest solo projects released by any member of Pink Floyd.
Japanese promotional pressings are especially prized for their exceptional manufacturing quality, quiet vinyl surfaces and meticulous presentation. Combined with the attractive gatefold sleeve, this CBS/Sony edition represents one of the finest ways to experience Wet Dream and has become increasingly difficult to locate in top collector condition.
Whether you're building a comprehensive Pink Floyd collection or discovering Richard Wright's understated solo work for the first time, this 1978 Japanese promotional gatefold pressing is a rewarding and highly collectable addition to any serious progressive rock vinyl library.
