Roger Waters – Radio K.A.O.S. (1987 Japanese Promotional LP – CBS/Sony 28AP 3361)
Released in Japan in 1987, this promotional edition of Radio K.A.O.S. is one of the most sought-after Japanese pressings of Roger Waters' ambitious second solo studio album. Issued by CBS/Sony under catalogue number 28AP 3361, promotional copies were produced in far smaller quantities than the standard retail edition, making surviving examples particularly desirable among Pink Floyd and Japanese vinyl collectors.
Radio K.A.O.S. is a concept album centred around Billy, a disabled young man with an extraordinary ability to communicate through radio waves and computers. Blending rock, electronic production and Waters' trademark narrative style, the album explores themes of technology, social change, war and communication in a rapidly changing world during the late 1980s.
Among the album's standout tracks are Radio Waves, Who Needs Information, The Powers That Be, Me or Him and the powerful closing song The Tide Is Turning (After Live Aid), which offered one of Waters' most optimistic messages following the global success of the Live Aid concerts.
Japanese promotional pressings from CBS/Sony are renowned for their outstanding manufacturing quality, exceptionally quiet vinyl surfaces and meticulous presentation. Distributed primarily to broadcasters, journalists and music industry professionals, these promotional editions have become increasingly scarce and are highly prized by collectors seeking the finest examples of Roger Waters' solo catalogue.
Combining an imaginative concept, memorable songwriting and superb Japanese pressing quality, this 1987 promotional edition of Radio K.A.O.S. remains an important release in the post-Pink Floyd careers of its members and an excellent addition to any serious progressive rock or Pink Floyd-related vinyl collection.
