David Sylvian, Riuichi Sakamoto Théme Principal Du Film – Furyo
French repress of the Sylvian / Sakamoto collaboration linked to the film Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (released in France under the title Furyo).
This issue carries the same catalogue number as earlier editions of Forbidden Colours (105.513 / 105513), but differs in presentation and matrix detail, with altered stampings on both sides of the runout.
The label shows 105.513, while the sleeve is printed as 105513. Pressing marks include corrected A and B side matrix etchings, suggesting a revised or later production run within the French market.

The music originates from Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, directed by Nagisa Oshima and produced by Jeremy Thomas. The film brought together Ryuichi Sakamoto’s score with the story’s tension between cultures and conflict during wartime imprisonment.
Sakamoto’s main theme became the defining element of the project. It later evolved into Forbidden Colours when David Sylvian added vocal and lyrical ideas to the composition. The vocal version shifted the piece away from pure soundtrack work into something more standalone and reflective.
What remains most striking over time is how strongly the music carries the atmosphere of the film. While the visuals and performances are rooted in their period, the score still feels immediate and unresolved — a piece that holds its mood without needing explanation.
