THIS MORTAL COIL

This Mortal Coil's landmark 1984 debut, It'll End In Tears, arrives here in a definitive 2018 Japanese HDCD reissue — remastered for the format that best captures the album's haunting, cavernous atmosphere. Ivo Watts-Russell's 4AD supergroup drew together Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, and Modern English members alongside Howard Devoto and a young Gordon Sharp, reimagining songs by Tim Buckley, Big Star, and Talking Heads through a lens of reverb-soaked melancholy that would go on to define an entire strand of 80s and 90s music.

This isn't just another pressing. Japanese reissues are prized among collectors for their meticulous mastering standards, superior pressing quality, and obi strip authenticity — and HDCD encoding adds an extra layer of dynamic detail rarely found on standard releases, rewarding close listening on compatible players while still sounding excellent on any CD player.

For anyone who already loves "Song to the Siren" or has spent years chasing a cleaner-sounding copy of this record, this edition is as close to essential as reissues get. A genuine cornerstone release for 4AD collectors, dream pop devotees, and anyone tracing the lineage from Cocteau Twins through to Mazzy Star and beyond.
