THE GENERAL is the indisputable masterpiece of one of the greatest comic actors of all time, Buster Keaton. An anti-heroic action-film with an anti-romantic love story, Keaton brings the film alive with his graceful style, wonderful sense of irony, brilliant gags and a rapt, love-lorn expression. Then, as a director (with Clyde Bruckman) , he adds some superbly choreographed comic sequences, an accurate recreation of a Civil War escapade, hair-raising stunts, beautiful photography and an actual locomotive falling from a burning bridge into a deep gorge - pure genius.

On this special Dvd, the original film has been digitally restored - frame by frame - and is accompanied by a symphonic score written and recorded by Joe Hisaishi, one of modern cinema's leading composers.

You know, brief outline, thumbnail of cover and, if you're lucky, the back cover. Very little content is original and you'll find that on alot of releases. It would be great if we could give this film the attention it deserves. It is after all one of the greatest movies ever made. Makes me laugh that on the back of this Dvd set it comes with a warning: 'Contains mild comic violence'. I mean REALLY! It's PC correctness gone mad. What it should have said: 'Warning - Genius at work'. Simples.

Condition: Used - Very Good. 2016: I've got a handful in as I want to try and sell as many of this wonderful Dvd set as possible and have priced it as low as I possibly can so more people can enjoy it. It's out of print as of 2016 so it is getting really hard to find. I've had to trawl the streets of London just to find the few I have. On all these sets the outer card slv has wear around sides. This is because the outer card is so flimsy and delicate that once they are taken out of the sealed bags and opened they immdediately have wear. I saw this with the Chaplin 2 Dvd sets released a while back. Exactly the same card sleeves - exactly the same wear. Even the sealed ones had wear they were so delicate. Digipacks have slight wear in places. 'The General' booklet is fine on all of them.The Dvds and the jewel case and pic slv are all in at least - 'used - very good' condition. Some come with the leaflet and these will go out first as it is great extra info.
