Artist/Renaissance Man

During the early 1500s, Leonardo was working on a number of versions of the Madonna and Child with St Anne, seeking a solution to the problem of creating a singlecompositional form from two adult figures and one or more children. The twosurvivors are probably the first and last of the series, the cartoon in London(NG) being probably begun in Milan and taken to Florence, and the one inthe Louvre dating from c.1506.
