December 2018: Added section for vinyl I've photographed but not yet had time to add a page. Photos are extensive though and are here. From the photos you should be able to identify what to look out for for a specific release.

Primarily I have added rock vinyl here (with some classical stuff I've stumbled across) which can be viewed on smartphones without having to zoom/scroll in on text. There are also a few tour programmes, books, cds, cd boxsets and vintage t shirts. Oh, and cassettes and cassette singles (the cassettes are now here). Remember the singles in the UK? I vaguely do though by the mid 90s I'm sure the cassette was on its way out because of the popularity of the CD. But still they were there, in the big record stores, stubbornly hanging on.

It's amazing really how the CD has been usurped in terms of popularity because of downloads etc. And vinyl making a comeback but then wasn't vinyl always better? The sound was perfectly imperfect and the sheer size of the LP gave the cover designer the chance to make a work of art. The CD was so small in comparison that the power of the cover was drastically reduced. Wouldn't it be wonderful if one day the sale of vinyl overtook CDs. With Tescos recently stocking the latest Iron Maiden release it's far from a fanciful idea.

I'm looking to include as many examples of vinyl as possible with extensive scans of each item. I want to use it as a reference point for releases. Scanning as much of the item as possible is important as an actual item scanned extensively which is for sale doesn't really happen enough. It's kind of a substitute for picking something up in a shop and examining it. Obviously, nothing replaces in being an old fashioned record shop but you can try your best.

I remember in Croydon there was Beanos and what an adventure it was going in there. Remember it? Ground floor was ok though always busy but it was when you climbed the stairs to the 1st floor that you really got excited. Alice in Wonderlandesque. Exotic pic. discs on the wall and weird and wonderful things all around you. And that amazing looking guy behind the counter with the long grey beard, glasses perched permanently on the end of his nose, who was forever cleaning up the vinyl. If you were a collector of a particular artist you were forever going in there to see what they'd picked up. It was for the most part expensive and you were forever cursing the prices but looking back don't you just miss it? What comes close to replacing it when all the high streets now look the same with the same shops and 'samey' here, there and everywhere. Downloads can't beat that experience.

Tower Records in Kingston was also brilliant for deals on CD singles and they stocked alot of them. I picked up a load of Morten Harket CD singles from his first solo album and they are now worth a small fortune. Wish I'd kept more of them.

The pages exist purely from the profits any sales generates so you can help expanding the pages by donating any unwanted vinyl or tour programmes and I will scan them and and add all the release's details. Adding ads to the pages is an alternative but in my experience they only generate pennies and are a major irritant to viewers so if possible I would like the pages to be free of them.
