Salvador Dali is considered as the greatest artist of the surrealist art movement and one of the greatest masters of art of the twentieth century.
The quality of a Dali print is so important. The better the quality means all the colours are captured perfectly. Only the official ones give you that guarantee.
The Catalonian coast, running from Cape Creus to Estartit, with Cadaques midway, would figure prominently in his most famous paintings.
The painting belongs to a series of works depicting Dali's sister Ana Maria. She was 17 in 1925. All these works were completed between 1923 and 1926.
Interestingly, if you look closely, Dali has omitted to paint the left side of the window. Also, the overlap between the girl's left foot and the bottom of the wall appears to be a mistake.
I think it is these two things that give this beautiful and seemingly serene painting its cutting edge. It just doesn't feel quite right and I'm sure it is what Dali intended.
