Anthony Eden (1897 - 1977) ~ Trivia

Random trivia I've picked up on Anthony Eden. I will add to the page when time permits and I have any kind of encouragement. You know, even a 'share' gives one encouragement. I don't need much!

  • If you have any trivia or photos you would like to share please e-mail me here (ihuppert5@aol.com) and I will add it. It would be great to build this up into something substantial on the great man that as many people as possible could share. A fact a day keeps the doubters away. I just made that up! Or maybe I heard it someplace else and am recycling it. Can't remember.

  • Anthony Eden, who served as both Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister, was one of the central political figures of the twentieth century. He had good looks, charm, a Military Cross from the Great War, an Oxford first and a secure parliamentary constituency from his mid-twenties. He was Foreign Secretary at the age of 38, and the first British statesman to meet Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin. Eden's dramatic resignation from Neville Chamberlain's Cabinet in 1938 made an international impact. Involved in the Munich crisis (1938), the Geneva Conference (1954), battles with Churchill over the modernisation of the post-war Conservative Party and rivalry with Butler and Macmillan in the early 1950s, and of course the Suez crisis.-Book: Eden: The Life and Times of Anthony Eden First Earl of Avon, 1897-1977
