Au 22, rue Lepic, un restaurant italien, 'Au Moulin de la Galette', recoit beaucoup d'artistes et de citoyens de Montmartre. Jean et de nombreaux autres y sont chez eux. Dalida y trouve la sympathie et le repos dans sa vie tourmentee.
A sa mort, le proprietaire decide que la chanteuse doit garder sa place dans son restaurant et il expose tous les tableaux que les artistes veulent lui confier pour prolonger la presence de Dalida.

At 22, rue Lepic, an Italian restaurant, 'Au Moulin de la Galette', receives many artists and Montmartre residents. Jean Marais and many others were among them. Dalida (1933 - 87) knew the place and was a resident of Montmartre from 1962.
Upon her death, the owner decided that the spirit of the singer must forever be kept within the four walls of the restaurant and that the place retained an artist - friendly feel. Moreover, in 1997, the corner of the rue Girardon and rue de l'Abreuvoir in the Butte Montmartre, Paris, was inaugurated as Place Dalida and a large bust in her memory was erected
Beauty cut from stone; beauty which will live forever whatever the seasons throw at it.
I think this drawing by Marais captures the striking beauty of Dalida that few others have equalled. It is Dalida, the spirit and soul of her mirrored in the beautifully shrap features in the drawing. It has that quality of line that only the great artists can draw on.
