In my experience Kraftwerk cassettes are more collectible than any other artist. I know some others point to other titles as the most collectible but it's all nonsense. Forget The Beatles, Bowie, Bolan, T-Rex, Elvis, Prince, Sylvian, Pink Floyd, Abba or The Stones. Yeah, they're collectible but they're not Kraftwerk collectable. It's another level.
The most collectable are the vintage ones from the 1970s. It takes big money just for me to get them onto the market - and some are really hard to find because, I guess, those who have them don't want to sell. But if you can get them they are little pieces of art.
Playback can be an issue with most cassettes. Kraftwerk are no exception. I take the stance that one should collect them for the visual grading rather than audio. They complete any collection. Anyone who doesn't understand this really shouldn't be collecting cassettes.
Not had any problems thus far with Kraftwerk collectors but with 1 or 2 Sylvian/Japan collectors who have been difficult, to put it politely. And do you really expect those vintage 1970s Bowie UK cassettes with the classic RCA orange paper labels to play without any playback issues or, even if they do play, to be of a comparable quality to the remastered CD versions??? There are other formats with better audio quality; cassettes are there for the nostalgic value. They really take you back to another time, another place.
The complete lack of any reference to cassettes in the Goldmine standard really makes the whole idea of grading cassettes to any recognisable standard almost a nonsense anyway.
